The API Rena FilStar Ceramic Rings are specially designed to be used in all FilStar filters. These rings have a higher cumulative pore volume per liter than standard biological media used in most canister filters. The highly porous, hollow design helps effectively distributes water flow, and allows massive colonies of beneficial bacteria to grow on and inside each ring, creating an ideal biological filter. These ceramic rings offer the ideal substrate for the growth of nitrifying bacteria that remove toxic ammonia and nitrite from aquarium water.
