The Cleaner Shrimp is found living in groups among the Indo-Pacific region and would be happy to live in groups in your aquarium. It eats detritus and meaty bits of seafood, but is most famous and loved for its behavior of setting up ‘cleaning stations’ in crevices where fish can go to be ‘cleaned’. The shrimp eats ectoparasites and dead tissue off of their bodies, and does a thorough job by climbing near their oral cavities and gills. In the tank it will eat freeze dried, frozen and dry meaty foods. It can learn to be hand-fed, and may nibble at your fingers! This is a very beautiful and useful shrimp that is beneficial to any saltwater aquarium. Drip acclimation is recommended for all inverts to avoid rapid changes in water chemistry. Copper based medications can be fatal for inverts.
