The Feather Duster from Hawaii can be as one of the most fascinating life forms available to saltwater hobbyists. Feather Dusters are worms that use the sand to create a paper-like tube to hide and protect their segmented bodies. The part of this animal that you get to see if the feather-like radiole that the worm extends to capture free floating food and then retracts to eat what has been colleted. The radiole are also pulled in quickly when the worm senses danger. They can actually shed the radiole if necessary for escape and will grow a new set. Feather Dusters should only be added to well-established saltwater tanks. They like to be placed on the bottom among rocky crevices so they are able to securely attach for protection. Their diet of micro- plankton can be supplemented with prepared phytoplankton foods. Drip acclimation is recommended for all inverts to avoid rapid changes in water chemistry. Copper based medications can be fatal for inverts.
