Used this product (250 watt model) for the first time last night, we had 11 hours under 30 degrees. Got up before sunrise this morning, my horse was drinking & the stock tank was 65 degrees.

I don't agree with the negative reviews...this product is awesome and will save you money with it's low operating cost. I did have trouble with one unit and it was promptly replaced. I am on my third year now with the same units.

I used the 500 watts De-icer on a cold night for the first time.
The next morning I notice thin layer of ice in the water tank. I had a dedicated GFCI receptacle installed just for the De-icer.
I checked the GFCI receptacle and it tripped, I reset the GFCI but every time I plugged the De-icer it tripped again.
I am very disappointed with the product, I expected the De-icer to function well without the worries and doubts. “Is it working?” Do my horses and goats have water today?
Sometime I wish the manufacture and company that sale any product should be responsible for a product that work. All it takes is pride and quality control.

I DISAGREE WITH THE OTHER REVIEW, THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT DE ICER AND WE HAD SOME ABSOLUTELY FRIGID TEMPS LAST WINTER, WAS FINE ALL SEASON AND PLAN TO USE IT AGAIN THIS SEASON. I USUALLY PUT THEM IN THE TANKS FROM EARLY NOV OR LATE OCT TO APRIL. THE CLIP IS A GREAT IDEA, ALTHO IT DOES NEED TO BE CHECKED DAILY FOR ANY MOVEMENT BY THE HORSES BUT KEEPS IT SECURE FOR THE MOST PART. I BOUGHT A 750W AND IT WAS PERFECT EVEN WHEN IT WAS BELOW ZERO FOR SEVERAL DAYS.

We ran 2 of these in seperate tanks all last winter. We had a really bad winter with many neg. temps. Never had a problem. I have some colts that like to "check" everything out. These survived them too. I'm ordering more to prepare for this winter since we have more tanks.

Ultimate De-Icer 1500W from Columbia, KY
catalog lists item as made in USA, but actually manufactured in China. Product only lasted less than one month & has a defective thermostate. Product had to be returned. Don't recommend.
