The Red Hard Tube Coco Worm is the largest calcareous tube worm. Its tube can reach an impressive 1 inch in diameter and up to eight inches in length with an attractive bright red plume. It likes to anchor itself in the gravel or rocky substrate, and it can retreat into its hard shell and close up the top when it feels threatened. It filter-feeds on plankton suspended in the water column, and it is extremely sensitive to calcium levels and copper based medications. Water quality must be good for this fragile worm to survive. Liquid organic food and phytoplankton supplements are recommended. Avoid peppermint shrimp and non-reef-safe fish as they will pick at this beautiful tube worm. Drip acclimation is recommended for all inverts to avoid rapid changes in water chemistry. Copper based medications can be fatal for inverts.
