The Sand Sifter Cucumber comes from Hawaii and eats algae and detritus on sand. It sifts the sand, ingests sand covered algae, digests the algae and then excretes the sand back out. Only one should be kept per 20 gallon volume and diet may be supplemented with algae sheets. They are quite toxic upon death so should be removed immediately. In this event several water changes should be done. Drip acclimation is recommended for all inverts to avoid rapid changes in water chemistry. Copper based medications can be fatal for inverts.
